New research ethics system

Following a phased launch, the University’s new Online Ethics Application System (Worktribe) for research ethics applications was made available to all users in late 2024.

Working closely with the Research Governance, Ethics & Assurance team (Research Services), the new digital workflow system was implemented by IT Services and our supplier, Worktribe.

Making ethics applications easier

Replacing the previous offline/email process, the new system brings many benefits for researchers and others submitting ethics applications, as well as for those responsible for administering and providing ethics review. Benefits include:

  • Automated workflows minimise delays to research initiation
  • In-built guidance, greater transparency and faster validation
  • Improved legal and regulatory compliance

A user-friendly, dynamic form is generated in response to initial questions, ensuring that the questions asked are relevant for the project proposed.

The system also offers Research Services and Departmental Research Support Administrators a means of capturing, reviewing and processing Ethics Applications in a single space.

Submitting an ethics application

To complete an ethics application, please use the new Online Ethics Application System (Worktribe).

The system is intuitive and easy to use, however, a selection of user guides and 'how to' videos are available.  If further support is needed, please email worktribe-ethics@it.ox.ac.uk
