This time last year we were hoping to retire support for WebLearn, but as the pandemic has continued to unfold, we have revised this aim and now intend to put WebLearn into ‘read only’ mode on 31 July 2022. This means that you will still be able to access documents held there but will not be able to create new content; the platform will be provided ‘as is’ with no ongoing support.
There is not yet a fixed date for a final ‘switch off’ of WebLearn - the WebLearn Decommissioning Steering Group will communicate a date in 2021/2022.
Alternatives to WebLearn
We encourage everyone using WebLearn right now to look at the alternatives available and move away from WebLearn as soon as possible:
Moving from WebLearn to SharePoint Online
If you think that SharePoint Online (SPO) would be your best solution to replace WebLearn, please check if your department or college has already created a presence in SharePoint Online before requesting a new SharePoint Online site. If it has, we suggest you contact your local Site Network Administrator (SNA) to discuss how your WebLearn content will fit into their SharePoint Online strategy. The list of SPO onboarded units and entities shows the names of the Business Owner and the Site Network Administrator (SNA) for each SPO entity.
Ongoing WebLearn uses
WebLearn will continue to be used for a small number of business critical activities at the University, until they are moved to alternative platforms during 2021/22:
- Coursework submission: moves to Inspera for Michaelmas term 2021
- Exam paper authoring and archiving: a project is underway to move this off WebLearn by the end of the 2021/22 academic year
- Exam results transfer: this will be included in an upcoming Assessment-related project
- Archiving historical course handbooks: an alternative archive will be provided
